Damsel True Hope

I once met up

with a whimsical damsel

named True Hope.

For unknown reasons,

she had the appearance of being legit.

We learned to dance an intricate pas de due,

with her in a pink tulle tutu.

I couldn’t have done this before,

because how could I have conceived

of anything with such high meaning and beauty.

She showed me I was not

born to lose.

All I needed

was a place to win.

She took me to the top

of the sky,

where the moon lives,

and lit a fire under my beat

to bring me true warmth.

She taught me

my heart could thump

to something other

than just managing another day of living.

And I learned that I could painlessly cut her

and put her in my pocket along with

my little songs that were just right for saving.

You see,

the very act of saving for a future something

is proof positive of hope.

In time, I grew to love her and

knew her more intimately

than if I read or consumed her

in all her richest flavors.

We live together now.
